Re: Pipe Diameters and subsequent Flow Rates
There are two options - either you choose pipe diameter based on the wanted maxim velocity for given flow rate - you can use: http://www.pipeflowcalculations.com/flowrate/index.htm - and select - calculate for diameter. Or for given pipe line and known pressure on the start and on the end of pipelin...

Re: simple calculation of pipe diameter
Here is the formula to calculate pipe diameter for predefined velocity: http://www.pipeflowcalculations.com/pipeflowtheory/flow_mean_velocity.htm . If you know volumetric flow rate [m3/h] - you can use first one, but most probably you will know mass flow rate [kg/h]. Anyway, you will need saturated ...

Re: Oil Flow From Gulf of Mexico Blowout
1. Oil viscosity [nu] would also be needed. 2. Pressure of 28000 psi is in some point of pipeline - for calculations it is required to know where is that pressure from discharge place - [L]. With these two known you can use: http://www.pipeflowcalculations.com/pressuredrop/index.htm calculator and e...

Re: Oil Flow From Gulf of Mexico Blowout
Do you know:
1. Pipe diameter
2. Pressure - somewhere - and that position distance from the pipe exit
3. Depth of see on the place of leak?

Re: Required Orifice size to produce 15,000 psi
I am not a person that can help you on proper nozzle selection, but maybe you can use of this: http://www.lechler.de/pdf/4_flachstrahl_e.pdf . Now, if I understand you correctly, you control the pump flow rate with rpm of the pump. With increase of flow rate, the pump pressure increase. To know the ...

Re: flowrates of a pipeline release
For calculation through the hole in water pipe line system, you can use orifice plate calculator: http://www.pipeflowcalculations.com/orifice/index.htm There you will have to choose - liquid and enter diameter of the pipe as D1 and diameter of the hole as D2, with pressure in front of the hole p1, a...

Re: how to calculate flow-rate and drop pressure on branch pipe.
Here is the illustration: http://www.pipeflowcalculations.com/images/piping.jpg 1. Now, to calculate flow in pipe A-B you need to know pressure on point B. I would make assumption as it is 5 bar. Flow rate Q1 can be calculated now. 2. Calculate flow in B-C and B-D based on the same pressure of 5 bar...

Re: Fluid velocity
you should use D^2 in area formula, and I get 127 m/s with calculator, for Q=0.01 m3/s and D=0.01 m
